The University of Tasmania is leading a new study to investigate how Aboriginal Education Workers (AEWs) could be encouraged into teaching degrees.
The research aims to ascertain AEWs’ views on the barriers to their engagement in a teaching degree, and to identify what factors would persuade, support and encourage AEWs in Tasmania to undertake a teaching degree.
This research would provide a strong Aboriginal cultural voice about how to encourage students to attend.
UTAS research projects would be of national significance and enable the Palawa Aboriginal community to have a voice and UTAS Faculty of Education to facilitate this voice in a methodologically and interpersonally respectful way.
The UTAS study is sponsored by the MATSITI initiative and will conclude in May 2015.
