NSW Department of Education and Communities and More Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Teachers Initiative (MATSITI), jointly presented at the Career Development Association of Australia conference in Adelaide in May 2014

NSW DEC has achieved great success in recruiting Aboriginal people into the Department through a mix of strategies including connection with communities, study incentives, policy levers and early career support.

The More Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Teachers Initiative (MATSITI) is a national $7.5m workforce strategy to increase the number and professional capacity of Indigenous people in Australian schools, including establishment of national networks with career advocates and use of social media channels.
