Capturing teacher voices for the digital archive

The NT Department of Education will lead a project to capture the stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander teachers.

Indigenous teacher stories and knowledge will be captured, recorded and archived for future generations in an accessible on-line database.

The archive will enable schools and the Department of Education (DoE) to acknowledge the contribution by Indigenous teachers as leaders in their communities and to inform leadership development initiatives.

Regional and remote knowledge will be accessible (with appropriate approvals) in the Northern Territory and further afield to highlight the contribution by Indigenous people to education and building the capability of the Northern Territory.

The digital archive will be used in the promotion of teaching as a career of choice for secondary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

The project is supported by the MATSITI initiative.
