Worawa Aboriginal College in Victoria will support female pre-service teachers to undertake their 5-week placement at Worawa during 2014 and 2015.
Anecdotal evidence suggests that significant barriers to successful entry to the teaching profession include finding a placement, financial and accommodation concerns, as well as issues such as self-perception, self-belief and isolation.
As a small school, Worawa is able to offer a supportive environment and professional mentoring for student teachers. The project will partner with RMIT and other universities to undertake a pilot Student Teacher Placement Project at Worawa Aboriginal College, supported by the MATSITI initiative.
